About Us

Our Story

Our non-profit organization, Elk Grove Animal Shelter Neonatal Kitten Care (EGASNKC), in collaboration with the Elk Grove Animal Shelter (EGAS), serves stray neonatal kittens of Elk Grove, California. In 2025, with often 'round-the-clock care and socialization by members of our organization, the staff at the shelter, and foster families, the lives of over 750 one-to-five-week-old, orphaned kittens were saved. This resulted in hundreds of lovable, socialized kittens being adopted to grateful homes through EGAS.

EGASNKC was established in January 2025 by experienced EGAS neonatal fosters and volunteers. They saw the need to assist the shelter by recruiting new fosters, educating neonatal kitten fosters through live training classes, providing much needed supplies and offering kitten care support to fosters. Their efforts were well received by shelter staff as well as fosters who benefit from their volunteers’ knowledge and support.

Our Vision

Our non-profit organization, Elk Grove Animal Shelter Neonatal Kitten Care (EGASNKC), will continue to provide support and assistance to the Elk Grove Animal Shelter’s (EGAS) foster program by improving our efforts to recruit and train neonatal kitten fosters. By increasing the number of trained EGAS neonatal fosters as well as providing the support needed to help them gain the experience and confidence to continue to foster neonate kittens, we strive to help keep EGAS’ high survival rate for neonates above 90% which is the extraordinary rate that they have experienced for the past six years.

EGASNKC’s Vision Board includes a plan to open a brick-and-mortar facility in the form of a Cat Lounge in Elk Grove. The Cat Lounge would be similar to the widely known “Cat Café” although it would not have a full food menu but rather high-quality hot and cold drinks, pastries and snacks. The Cat Lounge would house adoptable cats, and the cats would be accessible for the public to visit during paid hourly sessions.

Unique to EGASNKC’s Cat Lounge would be three separate rooms within the Cat Lounge that are devoted to special kitties. One room will be the Nursery where experienced fosters will care for neonate and underage kittens that are being fostered through EGAS’ foster program. This Nursery and the care of these tiny kittens will be viewable by visitors through windows from within the Cat Lounge. Ours will be the only Cat Cafe/Lounge in the nation that has a nursery where we will also recruit and train neonate fosters.

The second room will house senior cats that are available for adoption. These cats will be cared for in a quiet environment, away from frisky younger ones, and they will enjoy the comfort and peace of their special room while being socialized by visitors.

The third room will house the shyer cats, those adoptable cats of all ages that do not ha v e the confidence to occupy the larger Cat Lounge area where the more sociable adoptable cats will roam freely. Visitors who are interested in spending some quiet time with the shyer cats and hopefully find one to adopt will be the purpose of this room.

The Cat Lounge will host special events that visitors can participate in such as Yoga With Cats, Painting With Cats, Movie Night With The Kitties, and many more. The facility will also be available for private parties and other group events.

EGASNKC’s Cat Lounge is a goal for the future and one that we are actively pursuing with hopefully more news about its progress to come soon!
